Mice & Rat Control
Mice & rats are not only an unsightly nuisance they can cause damage to your home or garden and carry viruses, bacteria and other diseases, such as Salmonellosis, Leptospirosis and Weil's disease which can be transmitted to humans.
Signs that you have a Rat or Mice Problem
- Scrabbling or scratching noises coming from the walls, attic or under the floorboards.
- Droppings found around your home or garden, in the kitchen or where food is stored
- Damaged food packaging
- Paw prints on dusty surfaces
- Unusual smells
- Damage and holes in floorboards, walls, under baths etc.
Mice and rats can be living along side you in your home. They are mainly active at night, they can eat about 10% of their own body weight of food daily and rats also require a regular supply of water.
Rodents Inside Buildings
Rats & mice move into buildings for warmth, shelter and food, this more often happens in autumn or winter. They will nest
- Inside the insulation of walls or ceilings
- In or behind cupboards, counters and under the bath
- Near the boiler
- In attics
- Under the floor
Distinguishing between Mice and Rat Infestation
Rats are generally larger than mice. While young rats might be mistaken for mice, they can be distinguished by their longer feet and outsized head. Both rodents will chew through surfaces, but the marks left from rats' teeth are much larger than those of mice. Adult rats leave much larger droppings (faeces) – typically over 1cm in length whereas mice droppings are the size of a grain of rice.
